All the prints are presented in very good condition, natural ageing to the papers as to be expected. Housed within Hogarth frames of the period with some losses and retouching. Original glass.

Jacobus Houbraken 25/12/1698 to 14/11/1780 was a Dutch master engraver born in Dordrecht. He learned his craft from his father.

Houbraken used his talents almost exclusively for portraiture. Collaborating with the historian Thomas Birch and the artist George Vertue they produced a collection titled Heads of Illustrious Persons of Great Britain. The collection of more than 400 portraits form an important record for art provenance.
