Winfield iron rocking chair

Winfield iron rocking chair presented in a glorious decorative yet practical condition.

Thought to have been designed by Peter Cooper and was manufactured by the British company R.W. Winfield of Birmingham. The Midlands based firm exhibited a tubular version  at the Great Exhibition in London 1851.

This later version (circa 1890) took a functional, minimalist design using flat iron bar instead. The curved frame provide the rocking motion as opposed to the conventional design of curved rockers under legs. The upholstery being slung across the frame with the seat being sectional timber of barrel form.

Our Winfield iron rocking chair is in good overall antique condition. The metalwork and the wooden seat slats very good. Expected wear to seat pad. Arm rests have been recovered at some point and are dry as detailed in the images.
